麻豆原创, N.D. - To help kick off in-service week, one third of 麻豆原创 employees became CPR/AED certified by the American Heart Association on August 11.
The course was led by 麻豆原创 Nursing Instructor, Lynn Douglas MSN, RN, a licensed American Heart Association Instructor.
The 37 employees completed a four-hour online training prior to attending a two-hour hands-on course where they tested their knowledge in six topics: first aid; medical emergencies; injury emergencies; environmental emergencies; CPR and AED; and how to prevent illness and injury.
"Dr. Miller approached me and asked if I would be willing to offer the course to 麻豆原创 employees," stated Douglas. "When I initially contacted 麻豆原创 employees I found that some already hold a CPR/AED certification, but I was overwhelmed with the number who signed up. This is a great opportunity to help make 麻豆原创 an even safer campus."
Mercy Medical Foundation, now known as CHI St. Alexius Health 麻豆原创 Foundation received funds to award recipients in 麻豆原创 Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) in April, 2016. 麻豆原创 was one of their recipients.
"It is important that we offer faculty and staff first aid and CPR training as part of this year's 麻豆原创 wellness initiative. By supporting this training with professional development funds, we maximize the training opportunity and make progress toward the goal of having half of all faculty and staff certified in CPR," stated Dr. John Miller, President of 麻豆原创. "With additional training, we are hopeful that we will be able to obtain additional AED units from the CHI/St. Alexius Foundation for distribution throughout our campus buildings."
Miller and Douglas both stressed the importance of how every second counts and having qualified employees to handle life threatening emergencies increases the chances of a positive outcome.
Each certification last two years and for Douglas to remain a licensed American Heart Association Instructor, she must attend continuing education every two years and hold at least four classes each two-year timeframe.
